I have watched, played in, and coached a lot of baseball games. One thing I have learned is that when a visiting team is winning a game so dominantly that the home press box turns the scoreboard off, before the game is over, that it says a lot about the whoopin' that is taking place. Last night, at Lutheran South Academy, our BCA Bulldogs administered just such a beating 13-2 over the Pioneers. Bolstered by a long weekend of rest, Clay Wiseman turned in his most dominating start of the season on the mound, stifling the Pioneer lineup to the tune of one earned run on four hits, with four strikeouts in five innings of work.
The Bulldog offensive machine was in high gear, as well, racking up 13 hits on the night to lead to the 13 runs. From the start of the game, the Baytown bashers stepped up to the plate with a purpose and knocked the baseball all over the yard. Clay Wiseman led off the game with a line drive base hit to right field that was followed by a sacrifice bunt from Cameron Johnson and another opposite field line drive by Tyler Wilson. A couple of batters later, team homerun leader Ryan Bertram crushed a pitch over the left-center field wall for his sixth longball of the year and a 3-0 BCA lead.
While Wiseman held the Pioneer hitters at bay, BCA went on to score in six of the seven innings. Austin Wilson also homered in the game, a titanic clout that flew out of the yard as if it had afterburners. Boogie Russell led the way with three hits, while Wiseman, Bertram, and freshman Cameron Gregory all had multi-hit games. For Gregory, it was the finest offensive effort of his young career. Eight of the nine BCA hitters collected base hits in the game and all of them reached base safely multiple times, combining for a total team effort in the win. Austin Wilson pitched the final two innings, yielding no runs on one hit with two punch outs.
With our record now standing at 14-7, we continue our season at home on Friday at 4 PM against the Warriors of Northeast Christian.
