BCA 6, Port Arthur Memorial 3

After a rocky start, your BCA Bulldogs pulled out a victory over Port Arthur Memorial last night in the opening game for each team at the Hitchcock tournament. Led by the Wilson brothers, BCA overcame a 3-0 deficit in the top of the first inning through solid relief pitching and patient hitting. Senior Austin Wilson entered the game with one out and the bases loaded in the top of the first inning and began challenging the Titan hitters by locating his fastball and finished out the game for his third victory on the young season. Younger brother Tyler Wilson, the leading BCA hitter, led the offensive effort with two hard-smashed singles to centerfield that ignited the Bulldog attack.

Overall, the lineup was patient as they drew several walks to go along with base hits from Cameron Johnson, Josh Torres, and Ryan Bertram as the Bulldog rally resulted in three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, and two more in the fifth when the game was called due to time limit with BCA still batting and threatening to score more with multiple runners on base. The defense was stalwart once again, as catcher Tyler Beasley threw out a runner trying to steal second base in the first inning to set the tone for another game of impeccable defense. This was the third game that the Bulldogs played error-free in the field.

Sitting at 4-1 five games into the season is a good place to be, but everyone in the program knows we are capable of much better baseball. As with any team counting on young and untested players to play major roles, we are working through nervousness and wide-eyed bewilderment at times. As the games continue and the rookies become battle-hardened we expect to improve each time out as we continue our drive to be the best baseball team in BCA history, and first state champion, as well!

Come on out this afternoon at 1:30 and watch us battle the scrappy Palacios Sharks, who are coming off of a 15-4 thrashing of Bay Area Christian last night. We are expecting a battle and are excited about the challenge.
