On the strength of a solid pitching performance from junior Clay Wiseman, we were able to pull out a 6-2 victory over the fighting Sharks of Palacios. Senior Josh Torres led the offense with three hits in a game where the Bulldog defense wasn't as sharp as usual. Torres has recorded base hits in his last four at-bats.
Ryan Bertram came on in relief of Wiseman to throw two shutout innings for the save, and he also hit a double off the top of the centerfield fence that was inches away from being the first BCA homerun of the season. Other offensive stars were Wiseman, with two stolen bases and two runs scored, Tyler Wilson who reached base three out of his four trips to the plate, and super sophomore Cameron Johnson who had two hits, a stolen base, and a sacrifice fly that scored the first Bulldog run of the day.
The game started off slowly for the Bulldog lineup, but the bats came alive in the third inning when Bertram's blast to center became the first of five consecutive hits with two outs. When the dust cleared, the score was 4-1 in favor of BCA and the Baytown boys commanded the game from that point forward.
Tomorrow at 12:30 PM we take on the Brazos Cougars, who toppled tournament host Hitchcock today in a tightly contested, extra-inning affair. If we win that game, we will face Brazosport Christian in a rematch of last Friday night's 10-9 barn-burner for the championship at 5:30 PM.
Time to roll up our sleeves and bring home some hardware!
